A Siding Contractor Who Understands Islandia's Levitt Homes
Most of Islandia's housing came from one source: the Levitt & Sons development of roughly 500 homes built around 1963 in the center of what became the village. Those are ranches, capes and splits with similar footprints, and after sixty years many still have their original or second-generation siding. A smaller number of newer homes and townhouses sit near the Expressway and Old Nichols Road. AP Siding & Windows re-sides Islandia houses in insulated vinyl, vinyl shake, board and batten or fiber cement, and our own employees replace the windows and roofing as part of the same project.
Islandia is inland between the Expressway and the Ronkonkoma rail line, so there is no bay exposure. Siding here fights sun on the open south and west walls, wind across the flat commercial stretches along Veterans Memorial Highway and the Motor Parkway, and shade on the treed cul-de-sacs near Lakeland Park and Honeysuckle Pond. We handle that with thicker, colorfast panels on sunny faces, a well-locked profile that will not rattle in wind, and a vented drainage plane behind the siding on the shaded sides so moisture dries out instead of staining.
Siding styles we install
Horizontal Vinyl Lap Siding
The classic look for capes, ranches, and colonials. Low maintenance, dozens of colors, and never needs painting.
Cedar & Cedar-Look Shake Siding
The look of cedar shakes without staining, splitting, or rot. Great on a whole home or as gable and dormer accents.
Board & Batten Siding
Vertical siding for farmhouse, modern, and coastal exteriors, often mixed with lap siding for contrast.
Fiber Cement Siding
The premium option: heavy, fire-resistant, and very durable, with a real painted-wood look.
Signs it's time to replace your siding
- Cracked, warped, or loose panels, especially after a storm
- Faded or chalky color that no longer cleans up
- Soft spots, rot, or mildew along seams and trim
- Water stains or peeling paint on interior walls
- Drafty rooms and rising heating and cooling bills
Siding and windows in one project
Replacing windows at the same time as siding is the smartest way to do both. With the old siding off, new windows can be flashed and sealed properly on every side, and all the exterior trim comes out clean and consistent. You get one crew and one schedule for the whole exterior.

Islandia Sections We Serve
The Levitt section between Johnson Avenue and Old Nichols Road, south of the Expressway, is the heart of the village and where most of our Islandia work happens. The streets near Lakeland County Park and Honeysuckle Pond, toward the Connetquot River headwaters, are more wooded. Along Veterans Memorial Highway and the Long Island Motor Parkway the village is mostly commercial, including the hotel and the former CA Technologies site now being redeveloped. The blocks off Suffolk Avenue toward the Central Islip border, and the newer homes near Carleton Avenue, round out the residential area.
Islandia Village and Nearby
All of the incorporated Village of Islandia is in our service area, including the Levitt section, the streets near Lakeland Park, and the residential pockets off Suffolk Avenue. From Islandia our crews cover the surrounding Town of Islip and Town of Smithtown hamlets along the Expressway and Veterans Memorial Highway.
All siding townsFrequently asked questions
What does it cost to re-side a Levitt ranch or split in Islandia?
The Levitt homes share similar footprints, but additions, dormers and second stories added over the years change the wall area, and that is the main driver. The material, whether the old siding comes off, and the window and trim detail round it out. Vinyl is the budget end and fiber cement the premium end. We measure your particular house and put the price in writing.
Does Islandia issue its own siding permits?
Yes. Islandia has been an incorporated village since 1985 and has its own Building Department, so the permit comes from the Village of Islandia, not the Town of Islip. The village reviews exterior work and has its own code and fee schedule. We prepare and file the application with our license and insurance certificates and set up the final inspection with the village inspector.
What siding works best for the sun and wind in Islandia?
Islandia's open, flat streets take full sun and steady wind off the Expressway corridor, which fades and loosens thin vinyl. We recommend insulated vinyl with a positive lock and a fade warranty in darker colors, or fiber cement for the longest-lasting finish. Both go over taped housewrap with flashing at every opening, so the occasional driving rain stays outside the wall.
How long will siding take on my Islandia home?
A standard Levitt ranch or cape in vinyl is usually three to five working days with our crew on site each day. Splits and houses with second-story additions run toward five. Fiber cement takes longer because of cutting, priming and caulking. Rain or high wind can push a day, and we will let you know ahead of time if that happens.
Should I replace the original windows when I re-side in Islandia?
If your Levitt home still has 1960s windows, yes. With the siding off we can set new flanged units against the sheathing, flash them properly and integrate the housewrap before the new siding goes on. That seals the house far better than retrofitting later. One village permit covers both, and you have a single crew on site instead of two separate projects.
Do the Levitt homes in Islandia have any siding quirks I should know about?
A few. Many were sided over the original asbestos-cement or fiberboard, so we check what is under the current layer before pricing the tear-off. Some have had dormers and garages added that do not align with the original walls, which means extra trim work. We have sided enough of these to know what to look for, and it all gets noted in the estimate.
Why Islandia Homeowners Choose AP
- In-house crews. The AP employees who measure your Islandia home are the ones who tear off the old siding and install the new. No subcontracted crews.
- Written price after we measure. We measure every wall and dormer on your Levitt house, count the windows and corners, and write the price down before you decide. It holds.
- Based nearby in East Northport. Islandia is about 20 minutes from our shop east on the Northern State or the Expressway to Veterans Memorial Highway, which makes scheduling straightforward.
