Siding for Shoreham Village and East Shoreham
Two different places share the Shoreham name. The Incorporated Village of Shoreham, tucked on the bluff west of the old Wardenclyffe site, dates to 1913 and is a few hundred homes on winding lanes, many of them early-1900s shingle-style houses with cedar siding and deep porches. East Shoreham, the hamlet to the south and east, is far larger and mostly 1960s through 1980s subdivisions of splits, ranches, and colonials. AP Siding & Windows brings cedar shake, fiber cement, and board and batten to the village homes that want to keep their look, and insulated vinyl, vinyl shake, and horizontal lap to the subdivisions. Windows and roofing are available alongside.
The village sits right above the Sound with mature oaks and a steep shoreline, so its homes get salt wind on the north side and heavy shade everywhere else. Original cedar there has often been painted, patched, and painted again, and the sheathing behind it may be board rather than plywood. East Shoreham is set back from the water and more open, with sun on the south-facing walls and the usual 70s problems of thin vinyl and no house wrap. We design each install around that: marine-grade fasteners and careful flashing in the village, a proper wrap and drainage plane on the subdivision homes.

What we would put on a Shoreham house
- Cedar and cedar-profile siding Is the right answer on a lot of the older Shoreham houses. Natural shake and clapboard suit the period stock and the street; cedar-profile vinyl and composite give the look with less maintenance. This close to the water the fastener specification is as important as the material.
- Fiber cement Is what we put on most Shoreham houses that take real Sound exposure. It holds a painted finish considerably longer in salt air than painted wood does and resists the chalking coastal air causes. It is heavier and needs a flat, sound nailing surface, which is part of why we tear off.
- Standard vinyl Performs better near the water than people expect, since it has no painted finish to lose to salt air. What matters more on an exposed Shoreham house is the fastener specification and how the seaward elevation is detailed.
Permits for siding work in Shoreham
This is the one homeowners here get wrong, so it is worth being precise.
Shoreham is an incorporated village. The Town of Brookhaven does not issue your building permit. The Village has its own building department, its own fee schedule and its own review calendar, and a Town of Brookhaven application will not be accepted for a Village address. East Shoreham, immediately inland, is unincorporated and files with the Town, which is where most of the confusion comes from.
We work on both sides of that line regularly and we confirm which authority covers your address before anything gets filed.
How the job runs
- One We measure on site and open a section of the existing siding so you can see what is behind it. No phone estimates.
- Two You get an itemized written price with material, colour, trim scope and schedule on it.
- Three We confirm the permit authority for your address and file what is required.
- Four Our own installers do the work. Tear-off to sheathing, repairs, new water-resistive barrier, then siding and trim. Driveway stays usable and we magnet-sweep for nails before we leave each day.
- Five Walkthrough with you before we call it finished.

Shoreham Neighborhoods We Serve
Inside the village, the lanes off Woodville Road and the roads near the old railroad station site at North Country Road and Randall Road hold the shingle-style and craftsman homes from the village's first decades. The streets closest to the bluff and the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe take the most weather. East Shoreham, between Route 25A and the Rocky Point line, is subdivisions off Woodville Road, Defense Hill Road, and Route 25A, mostly splits and colonials from the 60s to 80s. Near the Shoreham-Wading River schools and toward Wading River the lots widen and the houses are newer.
The Village, East Shoreham, and the Neighbors
We work throughout the 11786 ZIP, both inside the village boundary and across all of East Shoreham. Rocky Point to the west, Wading River to the east, and Ridge to the south are on the same eastern route, so the crew is in this area regularly.
All siding townsFrequently asked questions
How much does it cost to re-side a shingle-style home in Shoreham Village?
These are larger, taller, and more detailed houses than the subdivision homes nearby, with porches, gables, and trim that all take time. The price depends on measured wall area, the material you choose, removal of the old layer, and trim and window wrap. Vinyl is lowest and fiber cement highest. Cedar sits in between. We measure, then give you a written quote.
Who handles the permit, the Village of Shoreham or Brookhaven Town?
If your house is inside the Incorporated Village of Shoreham, the Village of Shoreham Building Department is the authority and it has its own code and process. If you are in East Shoreham, which is a hamlet, the Town of Brookhaven Building Division handles it. Addresses on both sides say Shoreham, so we confirm your parcel before filing anything and deal with the correct office.
What siding suits a bluff-side home in the village?
Village homes near the Sound get salt wind on the water side and deep shade from the oaks on the rest. Fiber cement handles both and takes a painted finish that lasts. Cedar shake keeps the character but needs sealing on the north face. Vinyl shake gives the look with less upkeep. Stainless fasteners and a breathable wrap are standard on every village job.
How long will siding take on an East Shoreham split?
A vinyl re-side on a typical split or ranch in East Shoreham runs three to five working days. A village home with porches and cedar removal takes longer, and fiber cement is slower on any house. Wind near the bluff can cost a day. If the permit goes through the village, we fold that lead time into the start date so there are no surprises.
Can you replace windows at the same time on my Shoreham home?
Yes. On an early-1900s village house the original wood windows may be worth keeping, but if they are shot we can set new units flashed to the sheathing while the walls are open. On a 70s East Shoreham split it is nearly always right. Double-hung, casement, bay and bow, sliders, awning, basement, and custom shapes are all available in vinyl or fiberglass.
Does the Village of Shoreham have rules about siding materials?
The village is small and protective of its character, and its board may weigh in on visible exterior changes more than Brookhaven Town would. Matching the original material or using a fiber cement or shake profile that reads the same is the smooth path. We talk with the village building department before you order so the product you pick is one that will be approved.
