Siding Matched to Nesconset's Suburban Streets
Nesconset was mostly farmland until the 1950s, and almost everything here was built in the two decades that followed. That means splits, high ranches, and colonials on quarter-acre and half-acre lots, with a few newer subdivisions from the 80s and 90s tucked in. The siding on these houses is usually one generation of vinyl or aluminum that has reached the end of the line. AP Siding & Windows replaces it with horizontal lap, insulated vinyl, vinyl shake, board and batten, or fiber cement, and handles the window replacement and roofing that these homes often need at the same stage.
Nesconset is inland and relatively flat, bordered by Lake Ronkonkoma to the southeast and the wooded stretch along Route 347 to the north. There is no salt to deal with, so the wear here is sun, wind, and ordinary moisture. South and west walls fade and warp while north walls near the tree lines grow a green film. We spec heavier UV-stable panels or insulated vinyl on the sunny elevations, make sure there is breathable wrap and drainage behind every wall, and seal the band joist and foundation line on high ranches where cold air sneaks in under the floor.
Siding services we provide in Nesconset
Siding replacement
Full tear-off to sheathing, repair of anything we find underneath, new water-resistive barrier, and new siding with trim. This is most of our Nesconset work.
Siding repair
Storm damage, cracked or loose panels, and rot behind the siding. Worth doing when the rest of the wall has life left in it, and worth being honest about when it does not.
Insulated vinyl siding
Contoured foam backing that adds R-value across the studs, stiffens the panel and cuts outside noise.
Fiber cement siding
James Hardie and similar. The choice where profile and trim detail have to look right.
Cedar and cedar-profile siding
Natural cedar shake and clapboard for period homes, plus cedar-look vinyl and composite when you want the appearance without the maintenance.
Trim, soffit, fascia and gutters
Aluminum trim wrap on windows and doors, plus new soffit and fascia so the whole exterior finishes at the same time rather than in two visits a year apart.
What we would put on a Nesconset house
- Insulated vinyl is what we recommend most often here, because it suits the post-war stock this town is full of. These houses were framed 2x4 with thin wall insulation, and the contoured foam backing adds R-value across the studs where the framing normally bleeds heat straight out. It also stiffens the panel, which matters on the long flat runs of a ranch or split where standard vinyl can read wavy.
- Fiber cement is the choice for the colonials and for the older houses where profile and trim detail have to look right. It holds a painted finish for years, will not soften in summer heat, and carries a Class A fire rating. It is heavier and needs a flat, sound nailing surface, which is part of why we tear off rather than go over.
- Standard vinyl still does the job on a defined budget, and modern fade-resistant panels in the right profile look considerably better than what went on these houses in 1991. On the shaded lots we will steer you away from the palest colours, because that is where the green cast shows worst.
What siding costs in Nesconset
We do not quote over the phone, because phone numbers change once somebody actually looks at the house, and that is how homeowners end up with a price that moves after the contract is signed. What we can tell you is what drives the number.
Square footage and elevation count
A cape with four simple elevations prices very differently from a split level with dormers, gable returns and a bump-out.
Material
Standard vinyl, insulated vinyl and fiber cement sit at three different price points, and the gap widens on larger houses.
What is behind the old siding
On houses that were re-sided over the original material in the 80s or 90s, there is a real chance of sheathing repair once we tear off. We open a section during the estimate specifically so it does not become a change order later.
Trim scope
Whether you wrap the windows and doors and replace soffit and fascia at the same time. Doing it together costs less than doing it twice.
You get an itemized written price after we measure on site, and it does not change unless you change the scope.
Permits for siding work in Nesconset
Exterior work here permits through the Town of Smithtown Building Department, which sits on Redwood Lane behind Town Hall and has moved a good range of residential applications online.
Here is the part that catches people out. Three incorporated villages sit inside the township, and the Town will not accept applications for properties inside them. The Village of the Branch, the Village of Nissequogue, and Head of the Harbor each run their own building department with their own rules. Village addresses still read as ordinary Smithtown township addresses, which is why this trips people up.
One more thing worth knowing if you own an older house. Smithtown did not require building permits before 1947, so for houses built before then the Town issues what it calls a History Letter, or Letter in Lieu, rather than a certificate. If you are selling and a title search turns up missing certificates on a pre-1947 house, that is the route, and it is worth starting before the siding work rather than after.
We confirm which jurisdiction your property is actually in before anything gets filed. It takes five minutes and it saves the kind of delay that pushes a spring job into summer.
How the job runs
- One We come out, measure, and open a section of the existing siding so you can see what is behind it. No phone estimates.
- Two You get an itemized written price with the material, colour, trim scope and expected schedule on it.
- Three We confirm the permit authority for your address and file what is required.
- Four Our own installers do the work. Tear-off to sheathing, any repairs, new water-resistive barrier, then siding and trim. Deliveries get staged neatly, the driveway stays usable, and we magnet-sweep for nails before we pull out each day.
- Five Walkthrough with you before we call it finished.

Nesconset Neighborhoods We Cover
The streets off Smithtown Boulevard and Gibbs Pond Road form the core of Nesconset, with 60s splits and colonials on tidy lots. Around Nesconset Highway and Southern Boulevard the housing is similar with some newer infill. The neighborhoods near Lake Ronkonkoma's north shore on the Nesconset side are a bit older and more wooded. East toward Lake Grove and the Smith Haven Mall area the lots are smaller and the homes from the 70s. The section near Mount Pleasant Road and the Smithtown line has larger homes on half-acre lots, some built in the 80s and 90s.
Nesconset and the Lake Ronkonkoma Side of Smithtown
We cover all of Nesconset, from Route 347 south to the lake and from the Hauppauge line east to Lake Grove. The crew that handles Nesconset also runs Smithtown, Saint James, and Hauppauge, and crosses into Lake Grove and Ronkonkoma on the same route.
All siding townsFrequently asked questions
What drives the cost of new siding on a Nesconset split?
Splits and high ranches have more exposed wall than they appear to from the street, especially the two-story front and the lower level. The measured square footage, the material you select, tear-off, and the trim and window wrap set the price. Vinyl is the economical choice and fiber cement the premium one. We measure in person and give you a written number before you decide.
Does Nesconset require a permit for siding replacement?
Nesconset is an unincorporated hamlet, so the Town of Smithtown Building Department is the permit authority. Like-for-like re-siding usually does not require a permit. Replacing sheathing, altering window openings, or structural repair can. We sort out what your job needs before we start and handle the Town paperwork if any is required, so you are not dealing with the building department yourself.
What siding handles the sun on Nesconset's open lots?
Without salt air to worry about, the main enemy in Nesconset is UV on south and west walls. First-generation vinyl warped on many of these houses because it was thin. A heavier panel with a UV-stable cap, or insulated vinyl that resists heat distortion, holds up much better. Fiber cement does not move with heat at all. We tell you which walls need the upgrade.
How many days will my Nesconset siding job take?
A full vinyl tear-off and re-side on a typical Nesconset split or colonial runs three to five working days. Larger homes in the newer subdivisions, or a fiber cement upgrade, take longer. A rainy stretch can add a day or two since we will not hang siding in a downpour. We give you a planned schedule when we quote and update you if it changes.
Is it worth doing windows and siding together on my Nesconset home?
On a 1960s or 70s house with its original or first-replacement windows, yes. The siding has to come off anyway, which lets us flash new units straight to the sheathing and eliminate the drafts these houses are known for. We install double-hung, sliders, casement, bay and bow, awning, and basement windows in vinyl or fiberglass as part of the same project.
My Nesconset high ranch has a lot of exposed foundation. How do you handle that?
High ranches here often have four or five feet of block or poured foundation showing on the front, and the siding-to-foundation joint is where water and cold air get in. We run a proper starter strip, seal the band joist behind it, and keep the bottom course clear of grade. A wainscot of vinyl shake or board and batten can also dress up the front.
Why Nesconset Homeowners Choose AP
- In-house crews. Every Nesconset job is done by AP's own installers, with one foreman responsible from tear-off through cleanup. We do not subcontract any of it.
- Written price after we measure. We measure every wall, including the tall front on a split and the exposed lower level on a high ranch, and give you a written quote that holds.
- Based nearby in East Northport. Nesconset is about 20 minutes from our shop via Jericho Turnpike and Smithtown Boulevard. We are close enough for a fast measure and a quick return visit.
